|This September will mark the 15th anniversary of 9/11. To honor the occasion, I’ll be participating in a 3 day, 270 mile bike ride to benefit Beyond the 11th, a foundation that was started by two 9/11 widows from the Boston area to aid the widows of Afghanistan – among the poorest and most oppressed women in the world. |
The founders of BT11th, Susan Retik and Patti Quigley, responded to their own loss by reaching out to Afghan widows, to teach them marketable job skills so they could support themselves, educate their children, and live in dignity. In 2006 they traveled to Afghanistan to meet these women and witness first hand the impact of their support.
What I find most remarkable about BT11th is that it was begun by two amazing women, widows themselves, who turned their grief not into hatred but into compassion - a remarkable response to unspeakable loss, and one that gives me great hope.
BT11th has accomplished a lot in the past 15 years but there is so much more to be done. Will you help me to help them? Any amount will help me reach my fundraising goal. Thank you!
